Repost @bps_statistics Understanding the Difference between the World Bank and BPS Versions of Poverty Figures

In April 2025, the World Bank through its Macro Poverty Outlook stated that in 2024 more than 60.3 percent of Indonesia's population, equivalent to 171.8 million people, would live below the poverty line. On the other hand, official data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesia's poverty rate as of September 2024 was 8.57 percent or around 24.06 million people.

Why is it different? It is important to understand wisely that the two data do not contradict each other. The difference arises due to the different poverty line standards used and for different purposes.
