Assessing Tourism Potential in the Special Region of Yogyakarta while Promoting the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026)

Acting Head of BPS DI Yogyakarta Province, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, was invited as a keynote speaker at the Tourism Data Discussion Meeting held in the Head Office Meeting Room of the Tourism Office of DI Yogyakarta on Tuesday (April 14). At the event, she delivered a presentation titled “Assessing the Tourism Potential of DI Yogyakarta.”

In her presentation, Endang outlined the condition of economic growth, domestic tourist visits (Wisnus), international tourist visits (Wisman), and hotel Room Occupancy Rates (TPK) in DI Yogyakarta. These tourism data are obtained through surveys, the compilation of administrative records from relevant agencies, as well as other approaches such as the use of Big Data through Mobile Positioning Data (MPD), which is utilized by Badan Pusat Statistik to map population mobility in tourism activities. The data is derived from interactions between mobile phones and cellular networks, enabling accurate and efficient tracking of human movement.

The importance of collaboration was emphasized, considering that tourism is a key driver of the economy and is closely linked to various sectors such as accommodation and food services, transportation, communication, manufacturing, trade, and other MSMEs—especially given DI Yogyakarta’s strong tourism potential. Effective planning and policymaking require accurate tourism data to ensure more targeted strategies and to boost economic growth in the region.

At the end of the presentation, a socialization of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) was also delivered, which will take place from May to August 2026. SE2026 will provide a comprehensive picture of business activities and address current issues in the tourism sector. Participants were encouraged to support the success of SE2026 by helping disseminate information about the census to the wider community in their respective areas. It is expected that the results of SE2026 will support economic policy planning, particularly in the tourism sector.
