Meeting with Bappenas, BPS, and the Statistical Community Forum

Acting Head of BPS-Statistics Indonesia of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, attended the Dialogue with the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, and the Head of BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, together with the Statistics Society Forum (Forum Masyarakat Statistik/FMS) on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Grand Mercure Yogyakarta Adi Sucipto. The event served as a strategic dialogue platform among policymakers, BPS leadership, and representatives of society to strengthen the role of statistical data in national development.

The Statistics Society Forum (FMS) was established to provide strategic input, recommendations, and considerations to BPS on national statistical issues, in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 16 of 1997 on Statistics. The forum's role is increasingly important in strengthening a national data system that is accurate, credible, and reliable as the foundation for development policymaking.

The dialogue was attended by FMS Chairperson Rusman Heriawan and members of the FMS. The FMS consists of 25 members representing government institutions, academia, practitioners, and the wider community. Members are selected based on their professional reputation, research contributions, and tangible contributions to the advancement of statistical science and practice. The diversity of their backgrounds is expected to enrich perspectives and generate comprehensive recommendations for BPS.

During the forum, it was emphasized that the government needs stronger synergy among policymakers, experts, and the public. Such synergy is essential to ensure the provision of accurate, inclusive, and publicly accessible data. With high-quality data, government policies can be grounded in evidence rather than assumptions.

Statistical data must serve as the foundation of evidence-based policy, supporting more sustainable and equitable development in Indonesia. The FMS is also expected to bridge public understanding of statistics. Data should not merely be viewed as numbers, but should be understood, utilized, and ultimately contribute to improving people's welfare.

Going forward, the FMS will serve as a strategic partner of BPS in addressing various important national issues, ranging from methodologies for measuring poverty rates and economic growth indicators to the utilization of big data and the digitalization of statistics.

Through the participation of BPS-Statistics Indonesia of the Special Region of Yogyakarta in this forum, BPS reaffirms its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the central government, local governments, and society in realizing a high-quality One Data Indonesia (Satu Data Indonesia) system.
