Acting Head of BPS Yogyakarta Attends Commission D Local Working Visit

Acting Head of BPS-Statistics Indonesia Yogyakarta, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, attended a local working visit by Commission D of the Yogyakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DIY) to the Yogyakarta Social Affairs Office on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the TMPN Kusumanegara Hall. The working visit focused on monitoring and evaluating the optimization of the National Single Socioeconomic Data (Data Tunggal Sosial Ekonomi Nasional/DTSEN) as the primary database to support the accurate targeting of social welfare programs in Yogyakarta.

The meeting was attended by Chair of Commission D of the Yogyakarta DPRD, R.B. Dwi Wahyu Budianto, along with members of Commission D; Head of the Yogyakarta Social Affairs Office, Suyarno, and his staff; as well as representatives from the Social Affairs Offices of regencies and the municipality across Yogyakarta.

In her presentation, the Acting Head of BPS-Statistics Indonesia Yogyakarta highlighted the importance of DTSEN for the government. To date, various socioeconomic datasets have been used across ministries and government institutions, each with different coverage, purposes, and variables. This situation has the potential to cause overlapping program interventions and lead to two major issues: inclusion errors and exclusion errors.

An inclusion error occurs when assistance is provided to individuals who are not eligible to receive it. Meanwhile, an exclusion error occurs when people who should receive assistance are not recorded in the database and consequently do not receive the necessary intervention. Both issues directly affect the effectiveness of government programs and the realization of social justice.

Endang further emphasized that with an integrated and up-to-date DTSEN, the government can establish a common data reference. This will help minimize targeting errors and ensure that assistance reaches the people who need it most.

Following the presentation, the event continued with an interactive discussion involving Commission D of the Yogyakarta DPRD, BPS-Statistics Indonesia Yogyakarta, the Yogyakarta Social Affairs Office, and representatives from the Social Affairs Offices of regencies and the municipality across Yogyakarta. The discussion highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination among the central, provincial, and regency/municipality governments in updating DTSEN.

Representatives from the Social Affairs Offices across Yogyakarta shared various field-level challenges, including limited human resources, verification and validation processes, and efforts to improve public understanding of the importance of keeping socioeconomic data up to date.

This cross-sectoral synergy is expected to strengthen DTSEN as an effective, accountable, and sustainable instrument for promoting inclusive and equitable social welfare in Yogyakarta.
