Working Visit of Commission X DPR RI Working Committee on the Statistics Bill

The Working Committee (Panja) on the Bill on Statistics of Commission X of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) conducted a working visit to Kulon Progo Regency on Thursday (September 17, 2026). Led by Deputy Chairperson of Commission X DPR RI, My Esti Wijayati, the visit aimed to gather regional input on the urgency of updating the national statistical regulatory framework.

Held at Adikarta Building, Kulon Progo Regency Government Complex, the meeting was attended by Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics of BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Ateng Hartono; Acting Head of BPS-Statistics of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih; and Heads of BPS offices across the regencies and city in Yogyakarta. Representing the Kulon Progo Regency Government were Regional Secretary Triyono, along with representatives from government agencies, higher education institutions, village heads, and school principals.

Regional Secretary of Kulon Progo, Triyono, welcomed the selection of Kulon Progo as the venue for the public dialogue on the Statistics Bill. He also expressed his appreciation for the ongoing process of improving the statistical regulatory framework. “We hope that the Statistics Bill will strengthen the national statistical ecosystem and clarify the roles of each stakeholder in ensuring the availability of quality data, from the national to the regional level,” he said.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics of BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Ateng Hartono, explained various strategic activities carried out by BPS, including censuses, surveys, and statistical dissemination. He also highlighted the National Single Data on Socioeconomic Status (DTSEN) as Indonesia’s single database or social registry. DTSEN will serve as the primary data reference, while the determination of beneficiaries will remain under the authority of the relevant ministries and institutions.

Ateng emphasized that the revision of Law No. 16 of 1997 on Statistics represents an important momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s social registry and business registry. Through the National Statistical System (SSN), relationships among statistical producers, resources, and users can be managed in an integrated manner.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Commission X Working Committee encouraged BPS and local governments to strengthen data integration and validation, as well as to involve village-level governments to ensure the accuracy of program targeting. With strong data governance, development policies, particularly education and social assistance programs, are expected to become more accurately targeted.
