Abstract

The Consumer Tendency Index (ITK) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta 2018 is an annual publication issued by the Regional Balance Sheet and Analysis of BPS Statistics of Yogyakarta Province and becomes the eighth publication. The purpose of publishing ITK publications is to provide an overview of the perceptions of consumer households related to their economic conditions and general economic conditions during the current quarter and estimates of conditions for the next quarter. The benefit of this index is to provide an initial signal (early indicator) regarding economic conditions in the short term.ITK is presented in two indices, namely ITK for the current quarter (Current Indicator Index abbreviated as IIK) and ITK estimates for the next quarter (Future Indicator Index or IIM). Both of these indices are calculated based on quarterly Consumer Tendency Survey (STK) data. The census block sample STK 2018 is a sub-sample of the National Social and Economic Survey (Susenas) activities in March 2018 especially in urban areas. Selected census blocks are included in the middle and high wealth index strata. Household samples were systematically selected based on the education level stratification of the head of the household from the updated Susenas results. The criteria for selected households are households with a head of household with a senior high school education and above.IIK or ITK are now compiled from three indicators, namely the latest income index, the index of the effect of price changes to consumption, and the index of food and beverage consumption volume. The upcoming IIM or ITK is composed of two indicators, namely the upcoming income index and the index of planned purchases of durable goods. IIK and IIM values ??ranged from 0 to 200. IIK values ??and IIMs between 0 and 100 were pessimistic, meaning that the economic conditions of consumer households during the current quarter or forecast for the next quarter were worse than in the previous quarter. The value of IIK and IIM is equal to 100 meaning that the condition of the consumer economy is relatively the same or has not changed with the previous quarter. The value of IIK and IIM of more than 100 means optimism, meaning that the economic conditions of consumer households during the current quarter or the forecast for the next quarter are better than the previous quarter. The development of DIY ITK values ??in both the IIK and IIM during 2018 are always at an optimistic level or the index value is 100, except Quarter III. The highest IIK value occurred during the second quarter (April-June) related to the momentum of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, school holidays, and the turnover of the new school year. The three indicators forming IIK have a positive influence (index 100) on the level of consumer optimism during the current quarter with varying contributions. During the third and fourth quarters, the value of the IIM calculated in the previous quarter was lower than the realization of the IIK value calculated in the current quarter. That is, perceptions of DIY consumers related to economic conditions are more optimistic compared to estimates / expectations.
